The Why
Hug Buffy Studio was born of an insatiable curiosity to understand how we relate to each other, ourselves and all things tiny and grand.
Here, I throw my overthinking mind into illustrations and animations, trying to capture a glimpse of something that makes sense.
And sometimes I just paint.
The About
I was 5 when I first fell in love with visual storytelling. Living in Kalgoorlie, Australia, I saw a sketch book belonging to a gentleman by the name of Horse, a permanent resident in a guest house that my parents owned. He drew pictures that painted bigger pictures and I was hooked. That moment changed everything... or maybe it put me on the path that was always meant to be.
I doodled and dabbled and sketched my own curiosities until I was 28. While living in Dubai as a flight attendant for Emirates, I landed my first job as an editorial illustrator for a life-style magazine.
Upon returning to Australia in my early 30's I stumbled into a conversation with an art gallery manager which began the next chapter.
Almost 20 years later and having sold more than 200 original artworks with some sell out print runs along the way, I found the need to expand once more so I wandered into a Bachelor's degree in animation. After graduating I working as a character animator for Studio Xisco and found no shortage of fulfillment as we turned Indigenous Dreamtime stories into 3D animations.
And now I'm here, at the start of yet another chapter, writing my about page.
My greatest hope is that through Hug Buffy Studio, I might open hearts, eyes, and minds with my animations, illustrations and ceaseless ponderings, while continuing to deepen my own exploration of human behaviour. This space is my commitment to seeing beyond the noise and haste of a world that so often blinds me, because I truly believe there is always a bigger picture worth seeing.
